The beginning of autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year. When the leaves start to turn colors on the trees and mushrooms appear everywhere, I love going for walks in the forest. Nothing I like more than observing the changing nature and discovering and collecting all kinds of autumn treasures. During one of my walks, I even saw a beautiful fox.
I also love to make it extra cozy inside with candles and autumn decorations. Creating a cozy place makes me want to retreat after a busy summer full of social activities and to draw and illustrate again.
Personally, I like to create a mood board when I start an illustration. For my fall illustration with fly agaric and mice, I even made two. For the color combination, I collected natural materials during a walk that I arranged on a wooden base. Through sites like Pinterest, Freepik, Unsplash and Pexels (the latter three have royalty-free photos), I made a collage with photos and illustrations that I liked and that fit my idea. I then combined the different elements into my illustration.
Although I prefer to work with acrylic gouache, I also experimented with inks this month. There are many instagram challenges in the fall such as #inktober, #folktaleweek and #apaperaday. This year, inspired by inktober and by Sova Huova's book, I made two illustrations with inks that I enjoyed a lot.
Does fall also give you a desire to fold back on yourself a bit more and spend hours making beautiful things? Or what is your favorite season?
